The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has hinted that some pending Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results may be cancelled due to suspected examination malpractices.
According to John Kapi, Head of Public Affairs at WAEC, 99% of the BECE results have been released, while the remaining results are under assessment for alleged malpractices.
“About 99% of the BECE results have been released though but the rest of the results which are still with us, most of them would be cancelled based on the evidence before us and it makes us believe that the candidates engaged in examination malpractices”.
Kapi emphasized that their investigation indicates that some candidates cheated during the exams.
John Kapi stressed that some teachers and invigilators assisted the candidates to engage in the act and 19 invigilators who were teachers were arrested and dismissed from the teaching profession for assisting the candidates.
Kapi’s statement suggests that WAEC is taking a strong stance against examination malpractices.
