Agitated Chiefs and citizens of eight (8) communities in the Twifo Atti-Morkwa district of the central region, namely Kainan, Mampongso, Mantekrom, Odumase, Nsuoakyir, and other communities, have given the NPP government a two-week ultimatum to put them on the national grid or face a massive backlash in the December 7 elections .
They also vowed to bestow curses on any members of the impacted communities who defy the orders and support the NPP in the forthcoming elections.
The frustrated residents, numbering over 1,000, have been seeking electricity connection for eight years, but all efforts have been unsuccessful.
Speaking with the news reporter on behalf of the 8 affected communities, Nana Yaw Adoboah, the chief of Twifo Nsuoakyir, lamented that in the midst of their constant demand for electricity, the government awarded the project a contract in 2016, but the contractor was able to mount all the low-tension poles and lay cables on some of the poles. However, the contractor has suddenly abandoned the work.
Nana Yaw Adoboah I, Chief of Twifo Nsuoakyir, expressed the community’s disappointment and warned that if the government fails to complete the project, they will perform rituals to prevent anyone from voting for the NPP.
He emphasized that the chiefs would carry out customs to prevent anyone in the region from casting a ballot for the ruling New Patriotic Party on December 7, if the government did not summon the contractor back to complete the project and turn on the lights so they may enjoy it by October 15.
Some of the residents who were upset also expressed their resentment of the unpleasant circumstances that they found themselves in.
Additionally, Hon. Augustine Appiah, Assembly Member for Bimpongso electoral area, accused the project’s foreman of smuggling materials meant for the project.
“We have since reported the foreman to both the DCE and police commander in the Twifo Atti-morkwa district to call and investigate him about those missing materials”, Hon. Augustine Appiah noted
