COKA Urges EOCO to Soften Bail Conditions for Chairman Wontumi.

A prominent member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Chairman Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, popularly known as COKA, has added his voice to growing calls for the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to review and reduce the bail conditions imposed on the Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi.

In gud Facebook post, COKA described the GH¢50 million bail requirement as excessive and unfair, questioning the motive behind such a stringent condition. “It’s not about setting anyone above the law, but justice must be served with fairness and balance.”

He urged EOCO and the authorities to reconsider the terms, especially in light of Wontumi’s cooperation with the investigations. “We are only appealing for a reduction in the bail amount, not an exemption from the legal process,” COKA added.

COKA also reminded the ruling government that the NPP, just six months ago, was in power and must be accorded a measure of respect in opposition. “Today, it’s us; tomorrow, it could be someone else. Let us not use power to settle scores,” he stressed.

His remarks come amid mounting concerns from NPP supporters and civil society groups over what they see as a politically motivated agenda to target opposition figures.
