In a symbolic celebration, NDC supporters in Assin Central in the Central Region have held a mock funeral rite to mark the NPP’s loss in Saturday’s election.
This significant shift in the constituency’s political landscape was made possible by the NDC’s parliamentary candidate, Nurein Shaibu Migyimah, who won with 16,343 votes, defeating the NPP candidate Godfred Nti Anewu, who garnered 15,926 votes.
The constituency had been held by the NPP for 24 years, with the incumbent MP, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, deciding not to seek re-election this year.
The president-elect, John Dramani Mahama, also won the constituency for the first time with 16,011 votes, while NPP presidential candidate Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia lost with 15,139 votes.
The mock funeral rite is a manifestation of the NDC supporters’ joy and relief, as they revel in the defeat of their political rivals.
