Mama Africa 1: Ghanaian-German Entrepreneur Takes On Galamsey; Challenges Govt To Let Her Handle The Battle
Ghanaian-German entrepreneur, Amb. Dr. Phyllis Henrichs, popularly known as Mama Africa 1, has urged Ghanaian leaders, chiefs, and traditional leaders to hand over the fight against illegal mining (galamsey) to her.
As the CEO of Henrichs Sankofa Limited and Queen of Traditional African Mothers, Mama Africa 1 believes she has the expertise to tackle this issue.
The Queen of Traditional African Mothers stated, “We have the physics to fight illegal mining, so I am telling the chief to leave that fight for me,” during an appearance on TV XYZ’s The Ghanaian Kitchen Show, which was hosted by Ace Gospel Musician and Made-In-Ghana Ambassador, Emilia Arthur.
Addressing Root Causes
She highlighted the need to understand the reasons behind illegal mining, particularly among youth.
She said that before the authorities can combat the canker, they must determine what led to the illegal mining in the nation and why young people are involved.
She emphasized how important it is to educate young people about the adverse consequences of galamsey.
Mama Africa 1 said that that “if you have money but no water, your kidneys will fail because you drink tainted water, and you have to travel to India to get treatment for kidney failure. I was taught value in my environment so I will sit them (illegal miners) down and tell them the dangers of galamsey before we move to the healing of the water”.
Collaboration with Chiefs
Mama Africa 1, who is also a Peace Ambassador for the United Nation emphasized the importance of collaboration with chiefs.
According to her, “if chiefs that own the land would collaborate with me, we shall fight illegal mining because the chiefs are our leaders so if they would allow me, I will fight it. So I am inviting the chiefs. The chiefs should come”.
Empowering Women and Youth
She emphasized how crucial it is to empower young people by offering alternatives to the Galamsey, like skill development. One of the reasons why the majority of young people get involved with Galamsey activities, according to her, is a lack of employment.
Mama Africa 1 is currently in Ghana for a three-day free skills training program for youth at Gomoa Fetteh in the Central Region. The event, scheduled for October 25-27, 2024, includes:

Renowned businesswoman and the chief executive officer (CEO) of Blooms Bookshop and Trading Enterprise, Madam Eva Obese Bempong, has made a generous donation to her former primary school, Aseseeso Presby Primary School in Aseseeso in the Okere District of the Eastern Region.
In collaboration with the Nana Akua Sika Okani Memorial Foundation, Madam Obese donated GH¢12,500 worth of kindergarten reading and writing materials.
During the mini-durbar for the presentation of the items, Madam Obese emphasized the importance of giving back to the community, citing her Christian values.
She pledged to keep assisting her childhood school and the community, and that as time passes, donations will reach more schools nationwide.
“I’m committed to supporting the education of future generations, and this donation is just the beginning. I promise to continue assisting Aseseeso Presby Primary School in any way I can, ensuring these children have the resources they need to succeed. Education is the key to unlocking their potential, and I’m honored to play a role in shaping their future,” Madam Obese stated.
Madam Eva Obese stated that the donation was given in an effort to promote and enhance reading and writing skills among the students of the school.
She explained that the decision to provide the school with kindergarten reading and writing materials was made given that she believes a foundational education is crucial.
She entreated the teachers to allow the pupils to access the books.
Madam Eva Obese took advantage of the occasion to urge wealthy residents and fellow alumni to contribute to the development of the school, as it requires assistance with infrastructure.
She said that even if the government is making an effort to improve education, it is insufficient. As a result, people who can offer help must do so in order for the nation to have a better system of education.
This is not the first time the CEO of Blooms Bookshop and Trading Enterprise has made such a donation; last year Africa Methodist Episcopal Zion School (A.M.E. Zion) in Manso in the Asene-Manso-Akroso District also received reading and writing materials for kindergarten valued at GH¢16,000.
Thankfulness
Mr. Osofo Otopah Appiah, the headteacher of Aseseeso Presby Primary School, expressed gratitude to Madam Obese for her generosity after embracing the items.
He asserts that the materials will greatly enhance teaching and learning.
“We are grateful for your kindness and generosity. Your contribution will have a lasting impact on our students’ academic journey. We look forward to your continued support,” he said.
He assured that the reading materials would be put to good use to benefit the students.
On his part, Hon. Henry Ansah Addo, the Assembly Member for the Aseseeso electoral area, also expressed appreciation, Mrs. Eva.
He says Mrs. Eva’s donation shows her dedication to community development and encourages others to follow in her footsteps.
According to him, the school still needs assistance with a library, fan lights, computer lab, and other essential facilities, and for that matter, they appreciate her pledge to continue supporting the school and hope it inspires others to follow suit.
The students pledged to utilize the resources effectively and promised to make good use of the textbooks to brighten their future.
“We thank Madam Eva for her kindness. These materials will help us learn better and achieve our dreams, said one student.
Madam Obese’s donation has sparked hope for a brighter future among the students, teachers, and community members.

Alan Kyerematen Draws Strength From Asante Spirit For Campaign
Amidst tears in the eyes of the over hundreds of thousands of Asantes that were gathered at the Kumasi City Mall, Alan Kyerematen revealed that he is strengthened to carry out the rigorous campaign activities and also the works of all his adversaries because of the Asantes Spirit that is him.
The leader of the movement for change and Alliance for Revolutionary Change was speaking at the Kumasi City Mall after a mammoth walk dubbed the Afafranto walk.
The man tipped to win election 2024 also made an emphatic statement that God definitely will do what he wants to do and that Ghanaians should expect something spectacular in election 2024.
Meanwhile Chiefs and opinion leaders have backed the statement of Hon. Kyerematen by urging him on as his fighting spirit is what is a unique attribute of the Asantes. They believe with the way he is going about his campaign and the quality of the message he is delivering, it will be too difficult for Ghanaians particularly Asantes to reject him when Asantes especially under the Nana/Bawumia regime have being impoverished with close to a million of them falling below the poverty line in the Ashanti region.

1,042,361 Children Under 5yrs Targeted To Be Vaccinated Against Polio – Ash. Reg. Health Director.
The Ashanti Regional Health Directorate, in collaboration with its partners, has officially launched the 2024 Polio Vaccination Campaign under the theme, “Kick Polio Out Of Ghana.”
The campaign, set to run from Thursday, October 17th to Sunday, October 20th, 2024, aims to vaccinate a target of 1,042,361 children under five years across the Ashanti Region.
During the launch, Dr. Fred Adomako Boateng, the Ashanti Regional Health Director, provided an insightful briefing on the significance of the campaign.
He emphasized that polio, predominantly affects children below the age of five, with one in 200 infections leading to irreversible paralysis.
He further explained, “Among those paralyzed, 5 to 10% die when their breathing muscles become immobilized; and in some instances, the child is unable to move certain limbs, also called paralysis, even into adulthood, affecting the quality of life and at times the potential for other activities.”
Dr. Boateng also addressed the progress Ghana has made in combating wild poliovirus strains but cautioned that challenges remain.
“Though we have been able to address the wild types of polioviruses in the environment, we have not yet achieved our major objective of the Polio Endgame Plan to eradicate all forms of polioviruses. Our agenda of eradicating polio is in jeopardy with the current outbreaks of vaccine-derived poliovirus,” he stated.
To ensure the success of the campaign, Dr. Boateng called on various stakeholders, including traditional leaders, parents, guardians, educators, health workers, and the media, to actively participate in the effort to vaccinate children.
He noted, “Chiefs, Nananom, Queen mothers, Opinion leaders, Parents, Guardians, Headmistresses and Headmasters, Health Workers, the Media, the Clergy and Imams, partners and volunteers, health workers should get involved to ensure that we vaccinate at least 95% of children in the country, and in Ashanti Region, we are looking at a target population of 1,042,361.”
Health workers will be conducting house-to-house vaccinations and will also visit churches, schools, and other public places to reach as many children as possible.
Even children who have already received the polio vaccine will be vaccinated again to strengthen their immunity and contribute to the collective goal of eradicating polio from Ghana.
