OFKOSS SHS PTA Protests WASSCE Exam Centre Relocation

The Parents-Teachers Association (PTA) of Ofoase Kokoben Senior High School in the Bekwai Municipal Assembly of the Ashanti Region, has taken a strong stance against the recent decision to relocate the school’s WASSCE examination centre from the school premises to Bekwai SDA SHS.

In a media engagement, the Parents-Teachers Association (PTA)  Led by Mr. Peter Amoah, issued a heartfelt appeal to relevant authorities, including the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service (GES) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), to reconsider the decision.

The Burden of Relocation

The PTA’s concerns are centred around the logistical and financial burden that this decision would place on the students and their parents.

They said that with over 400 students registered for the 2025 WASSCE session, transporting them to Bekwai for the examination would be a significant challenge.

Many parents also expressed worries about the daily transportation costs, which would add to the already stressful examination period.

Accusations and Tensions

The situation has been further complicated by accusations against the Headmistress, Mrs. Juliet Amankwaah Kessewaah, who some parents believe is behind the change of the examination centre.

According to these parents, the Headmistress has threatened to punish final-year students who have spoken out against her, escalating tensions and creating an atmosphere of fear and anxiety.

A Call for Reconsideration

In light of these concerns, the PTA is urgently calling on WAEC and the Ministry of Education to reconsider the decision and allow students to sit for their exams on the school premises, as has been the practice in previous years.

The PTA believes that this would not only alleviate the logistical challenges but also provide a more conducive environment for the students to focus on their exams.

The Way Forward

As the situation unfolds, parents and students alike are holding onto the hope that a swift resolution will be reached. A reversal of the decision would go a long way in reducing the stress and anxiety that the students are currently facing.

The PTA’s appeal to the relevant authorities is a testament to the community’s commitment to ensuring that the students have a smooth and successful examination experience.
