GNUTS Praises Gov’t’s Free Tuition Initiative For Level 100 Students In Public Tertiary Institutions

The Ghana National Union of Technical Students (GNUTS) has commended the government’s decision to allocate GHS 345 million towards funding free tuition for all Level 100 students in public tertiary institutions.

The free tuition policy is expected to have a significant impact on students, particularly those from underprivileged backgrounds, by removing financial barriers to accessing higher education.

In a press release, the Union’s President, Yahuza Gariba Alhassan, stated that this initiative will significantly alleviate the financial burdens faced by students, while ensuring equal opportunities for all, regardless of their socioeconomic backgrounds.

The announcement was made by Tamale South Member of Parliament and newly appointed Minister of Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, during his vetting by the Appointments Committee in Parliament on January 20, 2025.

Hon. Iddrisu highlighted that the policy will greatly enhance access to tertiary education for many students across the country, making higher learning more accessible to a wider population.

GNUTS also congratulated Hon. Haruna Iddrisu on his appointment to the Ministry of Education and expressed confidence that his leadership will drive further improvements in the education sector.
