Birim Central Municipal Assembly Faces Legal Action Over Market Stall Allocation

A group of traders from Akim Oda, represented by Adwoa Botchway, Yaa Sakyiwaa, Kofi Poku, and Lydia Nyamekye, have initiated legal action against the Birim Central Municipal Assembly. The traders are seeking justice regarding the alleged unfair allocation of market stalls in the newly developed market structure in Akim Oda.

The court writ, issued on December 16, 2024, by the High Court of Justice, Akim Oda-Eastern Region, mandates the Assembly to respond within eight days. Failure to respond may result in judgment being passed in their absence.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Akim Oda Constituency has expressed its support for the affected traders, calling on the Municipal Chief Executive and relevant authorities to address the matter transparently.

SUBJECT: COURT ACTION AGAINST BIRIM CENTRAL MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY ON BEHALF OF TRADERS

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Akim Oda Constituency wishes to bring to the attention of the public that a group of traders, represented by Adwoa Botchway, Yaa Sakyiwaa, Kofi Poku, and Lydia Nyamekye, have initiated legal action against the Birim Central Municipal Assembly over matters arising from allocation of shops in the newly developed market structure in Akim Oda.

The plaintiffs, residents and traders from Old Town and New Town in Akim Oda, are seeking justice regarding the alleged unfair allocation of market stalls. The court writ, issued on 16th December 2024 by the High Court of Justice, Akim Oda-Eastern Region, mandates the Assembly to respond within eight days, failing which judgment may be passed in their absence.

The NDC Akim Oda Constituency stands firmly with the affected traders in their pursuit of fairness and equity. We call on the Municipal Chief Executive and relevant authorities to address this matter transparently and ensure the shops are allocated to the rightful beneficiariesā€”those displaced by the redevelopment.
