Heavy downpour accompanied by strong winds on Thursday, November 14, 2024, forced Akyem Oda Divisional Police Commander, ACP Samuel Adane Ameyaw, out of his office.
This isn’t an isolated incident; ACP Ameyaw has faced similar challenges since assuming office two years ago.
“We’re constantly battling water damage. I’m forced to dry my books after every rain, the table’s weak, and other office equipment isn’t functioning properly,” ACP Ameyaw lamented. “Nobody attends to our needs; we protect human beings, but we also need protection.”
Challenges and Pleas for Assistance
ACP Ameyaw revealed that the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) directed the to vacate the building due to expired rental agreements, but relocation plans stalled.
According to ACP Ameyaw, “the IGP has written to us asking us to leave this building since our lease has ended, but we are still residing here because we have nowhere else to go”.
Desperate for solutions, ACP Ameyaw personally approached the Paramount Chief of Kotoku Traditional Council_, Oseadeɛyɔ Dr. Frimpong Manso IV and the Birim Central Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Joyce Adwoa Agyeiwaa
Unfortunately, his pleas remain unanswered.
Temporary Solution
ACP Samuel Adane Ameyaw announced that he would be working from his rented accommodations until the authorities fixed the building’s leaks and other challenges.
“I won’t risk my life due to my position,” he emphasized.
